THE JUNGLE Address: Wheldon Road, Castleford, WF10 2SD. 2010 Admission: £18 & £10 (+£3 for seating). Discounts available for online ordering.
GETTING THERE: Directions to The Jungle are as follows:
From the West: Leave the M62 at Junction 31. Navigate the junction by following signs for Castleford which will put you onto Whitwood Common Lane heading north. Follow the road up the hill to the roundabout at the top. Go straight on, onto Lumley St. Follow this road into the town centre. Keep going, over the level crossing and past the bus station, to the mini roundabout at the very end. Turn right, passing the Crimea Tavern and Allinsons Flourmill on your left. On the right you'll see a large car park (which you may want to consider using as it's only a short walk to the ground from here). Carry on to the roundabout and go straight forward onto Wheldon Road. Follow the road up for about 1/4 mile and the ground is on your right. On site parking (fee applies) is via the 2nd training field entrance, on the right after the ground.
From the East: Leave the M62 at Junction 32 (the Freeport/Xscape junction). Follow signs for Castleford & Glasshoughton, which should put you onto Park Rd heading north. Follow the road to the mini roundabout at the top and bear left onto Front St. At the next mini roundabout bear right onto Pontefract Rd and follow it all the way down to the bottom. At the end, bear left at the mini roundabout and head past Carlton Lanes car park on the left (consider parking here - the ground isn't far now). Carry on to the next roundabout and turn right onto Wheldon Road. Follow the road up for about 1/4 mile and the ground is on your right. On site parking (fee applies) is via the 2nd training field entrance, on the right after the ground.
From the North & South: By far the easiest route is to leave the A1 at the M62 junction and head west. Then follow the 'from the east' directions above. If you're coming up the M1, get onto the M62 and follow 'from the west'.
Train or Bus: Castleford train and bus stations are both in the town centre itself. From either you can easily find your way to the main shopping area, including Carlton Lanes Shopping centre on the eastern side of town. From 'The Lanes' it's just a short walk up Wheldon Road to the ground. Ask or just follow the locals who all know the way, or alternatively, find the car park at the east end of The Lanes and the roundabout beyond. From the roundabout, go up Wheldon Road, passing the Garden House pub on your left, and keep going until you see the ground on the right hand side.
GETTING IN: There are turnstiles on three sides of the ground, giving direct access to the Princess St and Wheldon Road stands and to the area behind the Main Stand. Concessions must use certain turnstiles but all three sides tend to have at least one of each type open. Disabled access (if you can't use a turnstile) is via the Arthur Atkinson gate - you'll have to ask a steward for assistance.
TOILETS: Pretty basic but better than they used to be (no really, they are!). Ladies and Gents bogs are marked on the map - note that if you have a weak bladder it's best not to stand near the scoreboard as this area is poorly serviced for toilets. Disabled toilets are round the back of the main stand but we can't vouch for what they're like 'cos we haven't been in them. If you have, let us know what you think.
FOOD: Typical RL fayre of burgers, hot dogs, pies, etc. Don't be put off by the silly names, the quality is generally pretty good (though you'll always find an opposition fan with a chip on his shoulder willing to slag it off). Prices are broadly comparable to most League grounds.
ON SITE BARS: Cas has a number of ale vending points around the ground. The Supporters Club bar is members only, but all others are open to anyone (except the Vice Presidents lounge which isn't marked on the map anyway). What you get depends which bar you use (eg: The Princess Street bar has only a limited selection) so arrive early and check out a few of them. Like anywhere else, all the bars get very busy nearer to kick off, especially the Tiger Bar under the main stand.
SEATING: Most of the ground is good old fashioned terracing, just the way we like it. The Main Stand is all seater but you have to pay extra to get into it. Go to the office for transfer tickets.
MOVING AROUND: Cas don't have a segregation policy so fans are free to stand anywhere, home or away. Basically, you can enter via any turnstile and still get to any part of the ground. The only exception is the Main Stand itself (which as we said you have to pay extra for). Sometimes (when the ground is full) there will be an announcement asking fans not to change ends, but usually it's not a problem.
SMOKING POLICY: The official line is that The Jungle is a no smoking ground, but in practical terms it means that smoking is not permitted in any covered areas of the ground. If you fancy a tuff during the game you'll have to stand in the open Railway End, or in the small open section between the Main Stand and the Wheldon Road End. In accordance with the law, smoking is not permitted inside any building.
MAP: Because a picture is worth a thousand words... (Click to enlarge).
