The Tigers went down to their fourth straight defeat of the season against the Cods at the KC on Friday night. A score of 22-42 showed how poor the Tigers were despite being level at half time.
After losing Brett Ferris for three months with a shoulder injury last week there was more bad news for the travelling faithful when it was announced that Joe Westerman would be missing with an infection. Ryan Clayton started at thirteen and youngster Nathan Massey was on the bench with the returning Kirk Dixon also starting at sub. The Cod's were still without Sean Long but looked as though they didn't need him as Richard Horne ran the show.
They took the lead on 11 minutes when Horne fed Tansey, who put up a high kick that Wainey spilled and Yeaman dropped on to score. The Tigers hit back though four minutes later, when Raz sneaked over from close range and Chubs added the extras to tie the scores.
Hull regained the lead when Ex-Tiger Manu latched onto Horne's kick but once again the Tigers hit back when the on-loan Ainscough scored his 4th try in two matches after good work from Jimmy Evans. Chubs levelled the scores again and they went in all square at 12-12.
Five minutes after the break the Cods scored again when Horne went in. Mr Tickle kicked his third of the night, but as all this was happening our injury prone half back Shifty decided he'd had enough and left the field. A devastating spell followed from the Cods killing the game off as they scored three tries and three goals in 11 minutes. The Tigers defensive frailties were exposed for all to see again and whatever TM said in the sheds at half time obviously didn't work (Again!).
Our Man of the Match Rangi scored a consolation try on 65 minutes and Dicko converted to bring the score to 36-18. Hard working Tigers centre Jimmy Evans also went in on 74 minutes, but it was far too late to matter especially when weak and tired defending allowed the Cods to score another on the hooter - Fitzgibbon going over and converting his own try to give the Cods a deserved 42-22 victory.

Gameday Summary:
Full Time: So much for the half time gee-up! That ten minute second half spell exposed quite a few weaknessess in our team, not least of which is a growing ability to give up when the chips are down. In touch and Cas still tried, but once Hull went two clear the game was effectively gone. Aligned to that there may also be a potential rift growing between coach and star half back Brent Sherwin. As he was pulled from the field I was reminded of TM's comments last week about him underperforming after not attending training sessions. That plus our already critical injury list, plus a few bad calls from our much loved officials - well, it's already looking like a long, hard season ahead. Bad news all round really...
80 min: And there's the hooter. 80 min: Conv FC. Fitzgibbon can't miss either. 79 min: Try FC. Horne wraps it all up. 74 min: But it's too far out for Hubes to convert. 74 min: Try TIGERS. Evans touches down in the corner. 70 min: Into the last ten minutes now ... 65 min: Conv TIGERS. Dicko adds the conversion. 65 min: Try TIGERS. Rangi deserved that one. 61 min: Conv FC. Tickle maintains the flawless record. 60 min: Try FC. O'Mealy... Flood gates well open now. 55 min: Conv FC. Tickle puts them 18 points up. 54 min: Try FC. Horne spots a gap and that's Cas' challenge dead. 53 min: Conv FC. Tickle's 4th gives Hull clear space. 52 min: Try FC. Inevitably the home side scores through Cusack. 50 min: Sounds like we're getting caned on decisions again. 48 min: Shifty's been taken off, dunno why. 48 min: Conv FC. Tickle gets three from three. 47 min: Try FC. Horne goes in to restore FC's lead. 42 min: First penalty of the half goes to... Yep, Hull. 40 min: We're back underway.
Half Time: Well that went better than expected. Despite Hull being firm favourites (and having by far the better of the early stages) the two teams have gone toe to toe, score for score. A decent half for Cas, albeit relying on one or two errors from the home side, but it's about time we had a bit of luck this year so no complaints on that score. More work to do for the Tigers but we're not out of it yet... Get at 'em lads!!
40 min: Finally... Half time. 40 min: Blimey.. how long's this half? 40 min: Well I make it half time now... 35 min: Sounds like Goldy's got to go off - Blood bin. 32 min: Conv TIGERS. Great kick from Hubes to level again. 31 min: Try TIGERS. But Ainscough scores next play. 30 min: Hubes is held up over the line.... 23 min: Conv FC. Another 2 pointer from Mr Tickle. 22 min: Try FC. Ex Tiger Manu sticks the knife in.. git! 19 min: Snitch is through for another but it's pinged for obstruction. 17 min: Conv TIGERS. And Chubs levels it with the kick. 16 min: Try TIGERS. Hudson gest the try back for Cas. 11 min: Conv FC. Mr Tickle lands a tough one. 10 min: Try FC. Pressure pays and Yeaman goes over. 05 min: Hull have the early upper hand, but no score yet. 02 min: Wainwright wins the first Tiger handling error award. 00 min: Hull kick the game off.
Team News: A couple of surprises in the final analysis. Firstly Joe hasn't made the cut so let's hope that's not injury related, and secondly Dicko's in but starts on the bench. For FC, Sam Moa is a last minute surprise late addition after not being named in their nineteen.
Pregame: Tonight has all the makings of another tough night at the office for Cas, with the visit to an on form Hull FC. It's the second game vs a Hull side in a row and as the Tiger injuries mont this one looks like going the way of the last. On the plus side we do have Dicko back in the squad and it's certain to be a second appearance for the very impressive Shaun Ainscough. Make us proud Cas...

I'd love to hear Matterson's half-time team talks.

I would image it was a tactical decision, probably moved Sargent to 7.
Discoon March 05 2010 21:34:21 ... You gotta laugh an't yer?
nottinghamtigeron March 05 2010 21:37:04
Unfortunately I think it's rather the club laughing at how much they can take the fans for a ride!
And TM is the biggest joker in town!

All I can say is...after spending f**k all on the team this year the money better have been saved to sign Shenton and Owen for next year.

Another case of coverting a winnable half-time scoreline into a heavy defeat.
Whatever TM says in those changing rooms...well he needs to say the exact opposite!
