We've always been proud of our pioneering spirit here at the Aye, bringing you a number of firsts down the years including the legendary 'Stadium Webcam' with which Tigers fans could track progress on our new stadium.
In October 2006, however, we surpassed even ourselves. Yes, the ground breaking Aye of the Tigers became the first ever fanzine to enter the space race when CASSAT1 was successfully launched to bring you live pictures of our new ground, as it's being built.... from Space!!
The launch was not entirely without incident. Our initial approaches to NASA and the European Space Agency were met with rather lukewarm reactions, so we had to call in a long standing favour with avid Aye reader Kim Jung Ill who allowed us to launch from a top secret installation in North Korea (which, we understand, was mistaken for something rather different and caused a bit of a kerfuffle at the U.N. - Sorry about that).
Since the successful launch we've had our very own boffins (the same brains who brought you the very popular* 'Survivometer') locked away at our tracking station in Cutsyke, establishing geostationary orbit, monitoring various systems and sending up test signals.
<<<<<< ++++++ CAS-SAT-1 UPDATE ++++++ >>>>>>
Initially (thanks to our boffins letting Disco 'do some of the sums') the feed from our state-of-the-art 'Aye in the sky' sadly set itself up to bring you live pictures of a field in Missouri rather than the new ground site. However, after a few tweaks of knobs and twiddles with dials we got... a blank screen.
So Disco got out his trusty hammer and with a few gentle taps here and there (along with some more energetic thumps resulting in dents and holes in the panel) Disco's percussion engineering finally got a picture. Granted it seemed to be a feed from some Japanese porn channel, but at least we now had a picture.
Stone Cold decided enough was enough and called those nice people from SKY who seem to know a bit about satellites and after agreeing to a few extra subscriptions (including 'Discovery Stamp Collecting' and the same Japanese porn channel Disco found for free) we have finally trained the camera onto the target zone. Er, the magnification needs some work but at least it shows the right area... And what do you expect from a box of Omo?
CAS-SAT-1 : LIVE IMAGING
(*Well - popular with those thieving gits at Wigan anyway)
